• Sponsoring ELL (English Language Learning) and GED classes in many of our 29 libraries, as well as preschool story times, the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge, Storytellers Without Borders, books for new moms at Parkland Hospital and many other programs – all free to the public.
  • Marshaling public support for a bond issue that will replace the crumbling Forest Green Branch and build a new, much-needed library in Vickery Meadow.
  • The Dallas Book Festival, FoDPL Gala, Poe Victorian Halloween and other events brought distinguished authors to the library, including Jonathan Eig, Andrew Solomon, Greg Iles, Jeff Chang, Kristen Radtke, Leah Carroll, Erik Litwin, Yaa Gyasi, and many others.
  • Advocating by our members for the library system helped win $8 million in renewed funding from the city of Dallas over two years, and those efforts are about to bear even more fruit. Beginning January 2, 2018, all libraries will be open at least six days a week, and every full-service library will offer an ELL program.
  • With the closing of the Central Library’s Bookends store, we initiated twice-yearly book sales, drawing thousands of bargain-hunting booklovers and adding a perk to FoDPL membership – first crack at the merchandise.

Our Mission

For more than 65 years, Friends of the Dallas Public Library (501c3) has devoted its energy to raising financial support and awareness for the Dallas Public Library system and its educational programs. Here are some of the ways we have added to that legacy this year:

All of these programs and classes are offered FREE. Dallas Public Libraries are open to all, and with the support of our members and donors, we are committed to continue our efforts and make the library an invaluable community resource now and for generations to come.

Friends of the Dallas Public Library is proud to be a 2018 Crystal Charity beneficiary. Follow the link below for more details and how you can get involved.
